Overhead Crane

Overhead cranes travel on runway beams fixed to the building structure, so the load path goes into the columns rather than the floor. Single girder cranes suit spans up to roughly 20 m and light to medium duty; double girder cranes give a higher hook approach, longer spans, heavier duty classes and a platform for the trolley and panel. Choose on span, lift height, duty class and available headroom — not on capacity alone.

Gantry Crane

Gantry cranes run on rails at ground level instead of on runway beams, so they need no building structure along the travel. A full box girder gantry has an A-frame leg at each side and suits outdoor yards, storage bays and precast or stock handling. A semi gantry crane uses one leg and one existing runway, which is useful where only part of the bay can take a new track. The foundation and yard bearing capacity are part of the decision.

Jib Crane

Jib cranes cover a workstation rather than a bay. A pillar jib stands on its own foundation and can be placed wherever the process needs it; a wall-mounted jib saves floor space by hanging from a wall or column. Reach, lift height and the structure that carries the bracket matter more than capacity. Choose the coverage first, then the capacity — it usually reduces both the cost and the civil work.

Electric Hoist

Electric wire rope hoists lift vertically and are used either as a stand-alone unit on a fixed frame or as the lifting component of a crane. A fixed hoist serves one position; a hoist with a trolley adds horizontal travel along a monorail or a beam. Lift height, mounting arrangement, control and the way the load is attached are the parameters that decide the unit.
